ATV Trail Bridge Completed Near Round Top, Texas
Providing dependable access across wet or low-lying areas often requires a solution that’s different from a traditional low water crossing. A few years back, Texas Ranch Resources completed a custom ATV trail bridge near Round Top, Texas, creating a safe and durable crossing over a marsh area for foot traffic and all-terrain vehicles while preserving the natural landscape below.
Project Overview
This low water project involved designing and constructing an elevated wooden bridge spanning approximately 100 feet across a marsh area on a private ranch near Round Top. Because the area does not experience flowing water, the bridge was supported on pilons rather than a traditional creek crossing foundation, allowing the structure to remain above the normal water level while providing reliable year-round access.

What Was the Goal?
The property owner wanted to connect ATV/walking trails and improve access across a marsh area without disturbing the natural environment. The bridge needed to safely accommodate foot traffic and recreational vehicles while remaining elevated above the area’s normal water level for dependable year-round use.
What Challenges Existed?
Unlike bridges built over creeks with moving water, this project required a structure capable of spanning a marsh area with soft ground conditions. The bridge also needed to extend approximately 100 feet while providing a stable, comfortable surface for both pedestrians and ATV traffic.
Another important consideration was designing the bridge to meet the anticipated loading requirements while maintaining long-term durability in a wet environment.
What Did We Build?
Texas Ranch Resources constructed a custom wooden ATV trail bridge specifically designed for the unique conditions of the site. The bridge was planned to meet current bridge design load requirements while providing safe, dependable access across the marsh.
The structure was supported by a hydro-driven pilon system with galvanized pilons to provide exceptional long-term stability in soft ground conditions. Water-rated pressure-treated lumber was used throughout the bridge to withstand the demands of a waterfront environment.
To maximize strength and longevity, every structural connection was secured using corrosion-resistant bolts and screws rather than nails. This construction method creates a stronger structure that provides reliable service for years to come while requiring less maintenance over its lifespan.
How Did It Turn Out?
The completed bridge now provides a safe, dependable connection between ATV trails while allowing foot traffic and recreational vehicles to cross the marsh with confidence. By elevating the structure above the normal water level, the property owner gained year-round access without disrupting the natural drainage or character of the area.
Projects like this demonstrate that every property presents unique access challenges, and selecting the right type of bridge for the site is just as important as the quality of the construction itself.
